Meet Dave Rorem

Dave has been training retrievers for almost 50 years, since he was a small boy in West Central Minnesota. He started out training gun dogs and then in 1975 saw his first field trial and was immediately hooked on the Retriever Field Trial sport.
Dave spent time training and learning from different pro and amateur trainers throughout his early years and spent the better part of 12 years learning from and training with Rex Carr. It was his training with Rex where Dave got his advanced education.
AS A COACH AND TEACHER:
Conducted over 50 seminars throughout the country on training and handling. Some of the students that he has mentored have gone on to win Opens, Amateurs, National Opens, Canadian Nationals and Canadian National Amateurs.
He has donated seminars and seminar participant spots to different clubs and organizations:
Boy Scouts, Delta Waterfowl, Ducks Unlimited, Triumph Boys School, Retrieve-A-Cure, Retrieving Freedom, Gopher State Retriever Club, Hennepin County Retriever Club, Minnesota Field Trial Association, Minnesota Iron Range Retriever Club, Duluth Retriever Club, Mississippi Headwaters Retriever Club, West Central Minnesota Retriever Club, Central Minnesota Retriever Club, PRTA, Alaska Working Retriever Club, Retriever Club of Alaska, South Texas Retriever Club, all for the betterment of young people learning how to improve their handling skills and the training of Retrievers.
Coached and mentored many of his clients to become respected weekend and National judges.
Produced two videos on training and handling retrievers.
AS A WORKER:
Active life member of 6 different Retriever Clubs:
Dave hosts, organizes and works at 3 trials per year on his property in Texas.
Dave has worked at over 20 National Amateurs as a bird thrower and has been bird throwing Chairman multiple times.
Serves on the Board of Directors for Retrieving Freedom Inc.
AS A COMPETITOR:
Trained and/or handled over 80 FC, AFC, CFC, CAFC
Trained and/or handled over 65 National Finalists in US and Canada, making retriever history.
Won the Canadian National 4 times: 1989, 1992, 1993, 1995
His clients have won the Canadian National Amateur 3 times: 1990, 1996, 2005.
Won the National Open in 2008.
Dave has had 4 finalists including the Winner in 3 different Nationals, making retriever ristory: 1993 Canadian National, 1995 Canadian National, 2008 National Open.
Mentored several trainers and handlers, including his daughter, Ty. In 2010, they became the only father/daughter National Finalists in the same National Open, making Retriever History
In 2010, Rorem Retrievers had 18 Open wins with 16 different dogs and had 11 dogs qualified for the National Open, making retriever history.
Throughout his career, Dave has had dogs finish in the top 5 Open dogs and in 2011 had the Purina High Point Open Winner.
